Adrian Santana, Yerai Cortes, Ismael "El Bola" will be back to Hong Kong this year again and reunion with Chloe Cheung from SuZhou to share the stage together in Hong Kong.

Adrian Santana

Adrian Santana w as born in Malaga and comes from a family of artists. His uncle Pepito Vargas, a well-known flamenco dancer, taught him all his knowledge about the art of flamenco. He continued to study at Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Málaga.

At the age of seventeen, he joined the cast of choreographer Carmen Mota where he worked as a soloist for five years. He then worked for Jose Porcel’s flamenco company in London, the company of Camborio and Lucia del Real at the Rome Opera “La Traviata”, the production of Paco Mora in the Bienal de Flamenco de Malaga, the company of Aida Gomez, the show “Flamenco Hoy” by Carlos Saura sharing the stage with artists like Concha Jareno, Pastora Galvan and Rocio Molina. He also has worked at Flamenco Festival USA, “Dressed to Dance” presented the Guggenheim Museum in New York led by Margaret Jova and choreographed by Carlos Chamorro sharing the stage with artists like María Pagés, Manuel Linan and Rocío Molina among others.

In 2010 he received 2nd Prize at XIX Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco de Madrid with his piece “Siempre me pasa lo mismo", subsequently presented in the Sala Pradillo in Madrid to great acclaim. He has participated as a part of the best dance companies highlighting Aída Gómez, Carlos Saura, Manuel Liñán/Daniel Doña, Margaret Jova productions, Carlos Chamorro and Rocío Molina, sharing the stage with artists such as María Pagés, Lola Greco, Javier Latorre, Belén Maya, Pastora Galván, Nani Paños, Concha Jareño and Rafael Estévez on stages and festivals such as Festival de Jerez, Seville Biennial and the Acropolis in Greece, Flamenco Festival London/New York, among many others. He has been directed by prestigious artists such as Antonio Canales and master Granero in different productions and is been well known in the tablaos Villa Rosa, Las Carboneras, Casa Patas, El Corral de la Moreria and El Arenal. He has been performing in “NOMADA” by Cia. Manuel Liñan. He was invited and performed with City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2013 and 2014.

He also presented his own production “SIMBIOSIS” at Los Veranos del Corral at Corral del Carbon in Granada in August 2014 and Biennal de Flamenco Malaga in May 2015. He was invited as a residence teacher at University of New Mexico for a month and performed “ SIMBIOSIS” at 30th anniversary Festival de flamenco in Albuquerque, one of the biggest flamenco festival in the world, in 2017 as one of the leading artists.

He also collaborated with Esencia Flamenca HK to present his show “La Partida” in Hong Kong and Japan in 2016 and will be presented in SuZhou 2018.

In addition to his experience as a dancer, he teaches courses in different cities and conservatories in Spain and also around the world such as Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Israel. 

Ismael "El Bola"

A native of Seville, Ismael de la Rosa is part of a long lineage of famous flamenco gypsies known as the “Familia Fernández.” Ismael was raised around flamenco festivals and theaters, accompanying his family, all of whom have contributed to the spread the art of flamenco throughout the world, from their eldest to youngest family members. Ismael’s uncle, the great Curro Fernández, took Ismael under his wing and brought him to countless flamenco shows, where Ismael always had a spot at the “fin de fiestas.” Ismael began his professional career at only 7 years old, debuting with his family at the Festival de Biarritz. He then performed at the acclaimed “Homenaje de Bernarda de Utrera,” at the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Spain. Ismael was also featured in the production “4 Generaciones,” which celebrated four generations of flamenco artists: his great- grandfather, Juan José Fernández, his great uncle, Curro Fernández, his father, Ismael Fernández, and himself, Ismael de la Rosa. He continued his career touring Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokio, Japan, with his father, and at 8 years old, Ismael performed as part of the prestigious Bienal de Sevilla, at the Teatro Maestranza. Soon thereafter, Ismael sang for world-famous flamenco dancer, Maria Pages, in her production “Canciones antes de una Guerra,” at the Teatro Villa Marta in Jerez. Ismael has participated in various festivals with his family, sharing the stage with many different flamenco artists, such as Capullo de Jerez, José Valencia, and Juana Amaya, to name a few. United with his family, Ismael also participated in the homage to la Peña Torre Macarena in the Teatro Alameda. Ismael has performed at the Flamenco Biennial in Seville with dancer “La Niña de los Cupones” in the production “30 Decibelios, ” which went on to tour Cádiz, Madrid and Jerez. And Ismael has been featured in Marco Flores and Olga Pericet’s production “Paso a Dos;” Guadalupe Torres’ “Roble y Acuerdate Cuando Entonces,” and Sonia Olla and Ismael Fernández’s “Entretiempo” and “Instantes.” Although still at the beginning of his career, Ismael has had the pleasure of working with great artists such as El Güito, Esperanza Fernández, David Dorantes, Miguel Angel Cortes, Pastora Galvan, Bernardo Parrilla, Paco Iglesias, Paco Fernández, Jose Anillo, Juan José Amador (Senior), Manuela Ríos, José Galván, Olga Pericet, Marcos Flores, Pedro Cordoba, Jesus Carmona, Sonia Olla, Nino de los Reyes, Ramón Porrina, El Farru, El Carpeta La Farruca, Alfonso Losa, and many more. In addition to accompanying dance, Ismael composes his own works; one of which was featured in the new album of famed singer José Anillo. Another composition peeked the interest of dancer Pedro Cordoba, who featured it in his production “Del 2000 y Pico,” shown at the Teatro Compac de la Gran Vía Madrileña. Ismael also participated in the presentation of renowned singer Esperanza Fernández’s latest album at the Teatro Fernando Fernán Gomez, in Madrid, and the Teatro Lope de Vega, in Sevilla, with invited artists Pastora Galván and David Dorantes. Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s Yau Ma Tei Theatre (Major Facilities) Theatre Booking Application Fernández, Ismael was also included in the “Auditorio Nacional” with the album “Mi Voz en tu Palabra,” by Jose Saramago. In addition to theater work, Ismael continues to develop his talent at various flamenco “Tablaos,” such as El Villa Rosa, Las Carboneras, Corral de la Morería and Casa Patas of Madrid, and Los Gallos, El Arenal, Museo del Flamenco y Peña Torres Macarena of Seville. 

Yerai Cortes

Born on May 24, 1995, Mr. Cortés is a native to the Alicante region. His passion for flamenco comes from his family. Presently, he lives in Madrid, where he began his career working at some of the best flamenco venues in the city, like Las Carboneras, Villa Rosa, Casa Patas and Corral de la Moreria amongst others.

Despite his young age, he has already been able to work at the Teatro de Bellas Artes de Madrid, el Teatro Coliseum de Barcelona and the Lope de Vega in Seville amongst others.

He had the honor of accompanying artists like La Negra, La Tana, Olga Pericet, Richard Bona, Marco Flores, Alfonso Losa, Manuel Liñan, Las Hermanas Bautista, Chucito Valdés and Javier Colina amongst others.

In addition, he is a composer and singer for Juan Debel and Yerai Cortes’s project.

He also performed with Esencia Flamenca HK to present Adrian Santana’s show “La Partida” in Hong Kong and Japan in 2016 and will be presented in SuZhou 2018. 

Mariko Drayton

Although Mariko is originally from Tokyo, Japan, she started to study flamenco in 1994 in Boston, US with Omayra Amaya, and her first exposure to real flamenco life was her role as house manager for Omayra’s show, which lasted 8 months. That gave her the opportunity to meet a host of artists from Spain. From that point Mariko was captivated by the magical art of flamenco.

She moved back to Tokyo in 1999. She continued to study flamenco

with Antonio Alonso, a former principal dancer at Ballet Nacional de España. She performed many shows as a member of the Antonio Alonso Dance Company in Japan.

These included productions of Carmen, together with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra at Opera City in Tokyo (which was broadcast on Japanese television), and with the Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra in Okayama.

In 2010, she moved to Hong Kong and kept studying with many artists such as Adrian Santana, Guadalupe Torres, Concha Jareño, Pedro Cordoba, Manuel Liñan, Javier Latorre, Alfonso Losa, Miguel Angel Espino and more in Hong Kong, Japan and Spain in addition to Clara Ramona for regular classes in Hong Kong and performed in many occasions in Hong Kong. Now she is expanding her knowledge with learning from Spanish masters and teaching and performing in HK and Japan. 

Chloe Cheung

Chloe Cheung was born in SuZhou China and moved to Hong Kong in 1992. In 2003, she discovered flamenco. Chloe kept studying with many Spanish artists and Clara Ramona in Hong Kong. She has since performed in Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, Shanghai and The Philippines, with private functions, expo, ferias, etc. She goes to Spain every year and has learnt from masters such as Concha Jareño, Adrián Santana, Juan Polvillo, Pilar Ortega, Alicia Marques, Isaac de Los Reyes, Nino de Los Reyes, Alfonso Losa, Jesus Carmona, Guadalupe Torres in historically rich cities such as Madrid, Seville, Cadiz, Granada etc...

and attends many intensive masters workshops in Hong Kong, Japan and Shanghai.
Now she is based in suZhou, China and expanding Esencia Flamenca in Suzhou and teaching and performing to promote Spanish beautiful art flamenco in China.
